(entrance at the doors under the tower)
Rock out to your favorite HONK tunes at your alma mater! We’ve decided to take the show old-school style outside in the Inner Quad, which was redesigned when Robins Hall was rebuilt with a stage, more room, and accessibility for all. Enjoy great music in the fresh air with a beautiful view of the NHHS tower illuminated at night.
This event will sell out so get your tickets NOW, don’t wait!
(Tickets must be bought in advance,
no admission purchases at the door)
Once you purchase your tickets, check your email for your confirmation (look in your Spam folder!). Please present this email (in print or on your phone), at the front doors of the school right under the tower. Parking available in the 15th Street Senior parking lot (near the pool) or on the streets around the school. Make sure to bring a jacket for the ocean breeze.
Get there early so you don’t
miss a moment of this once in a lifetime event!
If you already have tickets, we’ve reserved a great seat for you outside in the Inner Quad in the same, or very similar, location. Please bring your original email ticket to the doors, and note the time change to 7:30pm lights up!
The profits from tickets sales will directly fund our Scholarship program for graduating NHHS seniors with financial need, so join the fun while giving back. If you’d like to contribute directly to our scholarships, or other programs, we’d greatly appreciate it.
**As the current health situation continues to evolve, we will monitor and follow all local, state, and national guidelines, which may alter plans. We will communicate any changes as soon as possible.**
Learn More about HONK
HONK joined forces in 1970 to make original, timeless music. Four of the bandmates got their start playing in the NHHS Quad—Craig Buhler Class of 1966, Tris Imboden Class of 1969, Richard Stekol Class of 1966, and Steve Wood Class of 1967—and along with Don Whaley and Beth Fitchet, they still perform together fifty years later.
In 1972 Greg MacGillivray, NHHS Class of 1963, asked HONK to produce the soundtrack for his surf film Five Summer Stories. This legendary collaboration helped the film become a cult classic and solidified HONK’s identity. The soundtrack album was a favorite with surfers and music lovers around the globe. The song “Pipeline Sequence” became a #1 hit in Hawaii and climbed the charts in Australia.
For the next three years, HONK was featured at Los Angeles hot spots, like the Whiskey a Go Go and the Troubadour, as well as at high school and college concerts all over California. They toured with the Beach Boys and opened concerts for Loggins & Messina, Chicago, Jesse Colin Young, Jackson Browne, Santana, and many others. Audiences loved their musical energy and diverse repertoire that embraced gospel and jazz as well as Motown and folk. In the summer of 1975, the members went their own ways to explore other opportunities, and then re-converged in 1983 to offer yearly reunion concerts to sold out venues.
We can’t wait to welcome them back home to the NHHS campus on Saturday October 16th to celebrate 90+ years of Newport Harbor High School. Don’t miss this once in a lifetime concert event!
