We’d hoped to gather in person this fall for our school’s 90th Birthday Bash, but we’re saving that celebration for 2021. In the meantime, we want Sailors from all over the world to come together to enjoy a favorite from two NHHS Hall of Fame honorees.
Join us on-line October 18th for Surf Sunday with an exclusive showing of the 1972 cult classic Five Summer Stories. Heralded as one of the greatest surf films of all time, this movie became an icon in part because of its innovative soundtrack by the band Honk. After the showing, enjoy an exclusive live conversation with fellow NHHS Alumni:
Greg MacGillivray co-founded MacGillivray Freeman Films and went on to make Academy Award nominated productions. These include the IMAX documentary To Fly which plays at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum, and the IMAX blockbuster Everest, which shattered records as the highest grossing film of its type.
Tris Imboden was the founding drummer for Honk and became a member of the Kenny Loggins Band. He played with the multi-platinum band Chicago from 1990 until 2018 and was inducted into the Rock and Rock Hall of Fame in 2016. He also recorded with Neil Diamond, Stevie Wonder, Crosby, Stills & Nash, with Grammy-winning jazz singer Al Jarreau and in the R&B world.
These outstanding NHHS Alumni will discuss their memories of making the film and answer questions the audience can pose in the comments. During these unusual times, we want everyone to be able to join the fun, and so there is not a set price to view. Please donate what you can, and the proceeds will support our Scholarship program. Over the past four years, we’ve given away $44,000 to help the career dreams of worthy NHHS students come true—see our past winners on our Scholarship page. We know we’ll see greater need in 2021, so if you have $5, $50, or $500 to support this important cause, we and the NHHS students would be very appreciative!
